Paintings of landscapes, trees, and flowers, painted outdoors and in my studio.
Painting outside is thrilling, fast work full of light changes and blowing wind. I’ve had the wind carry my easel away, trees painfully drop acorns on me, bugs descend, and a snake drop from the mouth of a hawk in flight onto a canvas I was painting. Things are always happening.
In the studio the challenge is to stay active and moving around the painting, not getting too comfortable and risk overworking the image. It helps me to have several different paintings going at once so I can move between them.
